Alarms on board Tallink's ship
Late on Sunday evening, the Tallink ship, which had started her trip from Paldiski to Kapellskär, had a breakdown, after which it had to be turned over and brought back to Paldiski. "There was such a bang through the whole hull that it was still felt everywhere," the passenger on the ship described.
Katri Link, Tallink's communications manager, explained that in the evening there had been a technical failure in one of the ship's main engines, which is why the ship drove back to Paldiski port on its own to eliminate the error. "The ship returned to Paldiski port at around 1.30 at night and is currently in Paldiski port, where the problem is being investigated and eliminated," she added.
One passenger confirmed to Õhtuleht that the ship's occupants had been told that this was a fault in the main engine. "My colleagues and I were in the cabin at the time and what we were preparing to fall asleep. It was almost ten o'clock then. At one point, the ship began to vibrate strongly and this lasted for about half a minute. I also managed to tell a colleague that it is not normal for the whole hull to go through such a bang that was still felt everywhere. Then the alarm bells started ringing immediately."
The group in the cabin put on their clothes after the alarm and went out. They didn't know what had happened. They were told by the information desk that a fire had broken out on board. "There was a sniff and snout outside. It really seemed like something was on fire. Then a message came that it was a false alarm and we would continue our journey to Sweden. We also saw from Marinetraffic that the ship is basically standing still and not moving anywhere, "the passenger described.
Finally, the ship sailed back to Paldiski and those on board were sent off. "Then I asked another crew member what was flying in the air, and he replied that everything was flying," he laughed.
Most of the passengers have remained calm and have taken things for granted.
Hon blir borta i minst en månad.
